It's been over 15 years since a young Selena Gomez shot to fame as a Disney Channel star. And while Selena is still making headlines in 2024 with new music and acting projects, there has been less focus on her personal life lately, including her relationship with her parents.

Selena's parents Mandy Teefey and Ricardo Gomez divorced when she was five years old. Mandy retained custody of Selena and raised her as a single mom. Selena has credited her mom for supporting her career early on, driving her to auditions and acting classes. 

In recent years, there have been reports of tensions between Selena and her mom regarding the pop star's love life. Back in 2018, Mandy was hospitalised following an alleged heated conversation with Selena about her renewed romance with on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber. 

Selena and Mandy have kept things quiet in 2024 when it comes to discussing their relationship. Mandy runs production companies Kicked to the Curb and A April Productions. She serves as an executive producer for the hit Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building” which stars her daughter. 

On the other side of her family tree, Selena's relationship with her father Ricardo Gomez and Stepmom Sara looks to still be estranged. After Selena's kidney transplant in 2017 due to complications from lupus, she thanked her friend Francia Raisa for donating the organ to her - not mentioning her father.

In a 2020 interview, Ricardo and Sara said they hadn't seen or spoken to Selena in over five years. They weren’t sure why communication between them and Selena had fully broken down. Ricardo said “we love her and miss her very much.” He runs a boxing promotion company called Venture Boxing Promotions.

With Selena busy focusing on new music and acting roles including the anticipated “Only Murders” season 3, she hasn't made any indication that she has reconciled with her dad. Selena has been private about addressing family matters in recent years so updates are scarce.

2024 may be the year there is a breakthrough in the singer's relationship with her father. But Selena holds family relationships close to the vest, so it’s difficult to speculate. Her on again/off again 14-year relationship with Justin Bieber dominated the headlines more than her family dynamics. 

No matter what happens privately, publicly Selena Gomez continues to be on great terms with the most important woman in her early life and career: her mother Mandy. Their production company endeavours show a strong business relationship as well with no signs of additional hospital visits or family turmoil. 

Selena’s passion these days looks to be on reviving her music career and filming the third season of “Only Murders in the Building” - one of the most buzzed about and watched shows on streaming. Her personal relationships with family remain out of sight unless she decides to address it someday in interviews. For now the focus is on work, and on that front, her future continues to shine brightly going into 2024 and beyond.
