Best latin American restaurant in Guildford Town Carmona steak and tapas
This week we had the privilege of taste testing a combination of the Tapas and set menu at the Carmona Argentinian steak house in Guildford. Nestled away on the top end of the high street. A wonderful family run business with heart where it really matters, delicious food, fresh ingredients and staff that serve with passion and care for their clients and their business.
In the years that we have visited Guildford we have been spoilt with the sheer amount of restaurant choices, so many at the bottom of the road that we didn’t even think to venture to the top end. We are glad that we did!
The interior & decor
On entering the venue the space itself was designed with beautifully decorated candle lit tables with red roses. The space was very large with steps leading up to an upper level balcony and beyond this another area with more seating. The sheer size of the venue was impressive and would be suitable for a large event such as a wedding party or birthday considering the layout with the balcony we can picture it with a DJ and plenty of guests.
With a mix of lots of tables on the floor and also built in booths, it is an impressive space.
The Drinks
We started the evening with two of the most decorative cocktails a classic Pina colada presented in a stunning pineapple shaped glass and decorated with a cherry, lemon wedge and crushed ice and a Porn star martini decorated with a half passion fruit floating on the surface and a shot of Prosecco on the side. The cocktails were not only presented perfectly but the ingredients were fresh and zesty with real juice it makes all the difference.
The Starters & Main Course
We had a selection of Tapas; Solo Manchego (cheeses with bread sticks), Empanadas (savoury pastels filled with cheese and corn, they also offer other variations such as minced beef). Patatas bravas (potato garnished with a delicious bravas sauce) and Croquetas de bacalao (golden crispy coated cod croquettes). Picana con guarnicion (sliced picana steak) served with chips and chimichurri sauce and a decorative salad.
The steak was extremely flavoursome rubbed with salt and seasoning. We are continuously on the look out for restaurants that are able to capture the true flavour of beef, like that of Argentina and Brazil but within the UK, the Carmona certainly knows how to do that, it was irresistible.
The Patatas bravas was possibly the best version that we have tasted, we have been to a number of Spanish restaurants both in Spain and the UK and this one ranks the highest we would highly recommend it.
Both the beef Empandas and the Cheese were delicious, cooked to perfection and not soaked in too much oil but exactly as expected. Full of flavour and filling.
The cod croquettes were lovely and creamy, soft in the centre and crispy on the outside. We tasted so much food for the evening and the set menu was very good value at 24.95 for three courses.
Dessert
To finish we had authentic Spanish Churro’s filled with chocolate and hazelnut, presented with a cinnamon stick and dusted with edible glitter.
Pet friendly
The number of restaurants, bars and cafes in Guildford that allow pets is currently increasing and boy are we happy that this one is on that list. The spacious layout means you can sit comfortably and eat, along with your furry friend with no tears and a happy puppy.
Thank you for having us and we look forward to dinning with you again in the near future.
Our recommendation to you
Why not spruce up your valentines with a Carmona night, the steak of all steaks Argentinian style.
You haven’t tried beef until you’ve stepped through the doors into this heavenly haven.
Go full throttle show her or him that you mean business this Valentines with a full tapas spread and cocktails that don’t say “concentrated” but sing “zesty fresh”. Personally I feel like I’ve just returned from a holiday to Argentina or Spain but without the jet-lag all without leaving Guildford high street.
